What an amazing week! Monday's Pirate Day was so much fun! We got our feet wet with estimation and computation when our classroom transformed into the "Pirate Cove Arcade." Students chose items and computer games to play. Students had to choose two things from the arcade and estimate the sum, find the actual sum, and find out how many points they had left after finding the difference.
At 1:50 pm, Ms. Olenych, Ms. Knoblauch, and I turned into witches to perform an epic book introduction to the story Bone Soup. Our bone soup included gum eyeballs, zombie finger lollipops, booger gummies, gummy worms, and marshmallow bones. The students made predictions and connections, enjoyed tasting our "bone soup", and discussed whether Bone Soup was realistic fiction or fantasy.
We ended our week with our gummy bear experiment. What will happen to a gummy bear if it's submerged in water for 24 hours? We made a hypothesis, observed the gummy bear before and after submerging it into the water, and made our conclusions: The gummy bear absorbed some of the water, it grew BIGGER by 1-2 centimeters, and it still tasted delicious!
